KSF404T is a Pageant Blue Triumph Dolomite Sprint that was first registered in Edinburgh in January 1979. I've always loved Sprints, but decent (and original) ones are hard to come by. I purchased KSF as a replacement for my 1303 Beetle (GDT724N) in early 2008. It was rebuilt over a period of 10 years by a previous owner, and most of the mechanicals were either rebuilt or replaced. It's covered just 4,000 miles since a brand new engine was fitted in 1991!
The Sprint was added to the Triumph's Dolomite range in 1973, and at the time was a legendary car. The first production car to have a 16-valve cylinder head, and the first British car to come with alloy wheels as standard. The 130hp 2-litre engine was capable of getting you to 60mph in 8.4 seconds, and combined with an overdrive gearbox is a very comfortable car on the motorway. The last Dolomite rolled off the production line in 1981, and by 1984 production of the last ever Triumph - the Acclaim - ended. It's now a very rare car - out of a total production of almost 30,000 Sprints, there are thought to be 150 left registered at the DVLA.
Plans for the future? The seat covers are showing their age, so I'd like to get a decent set. Unfortunately the tan interior is hard to come by in good condition, so I may revert to a black one instead.
As of October 2008 I've covered 4,000 trouble free miles - I've only had to replace the fuel tank and the steering rack. I also fitted a set of original 1970's-style pressed metal number plates, which set the car off a treat!
